Great news! The newest charter school, Kootenai Classical Academy, is now accepting applications for students K-8! This has been a long time coming for the KCA team and it’s an exciting time to be able to start enrolling students. Application window is open now until March 24, 2023.
What is Kootenai Classical Academy? They are a new tuition-free public charter school that has been created using Hillsdale College’s Barney Charter School Initiative (BCSI), providing a classical model of education for North Idaho’s youth. There is one other BCSI school in Idaho: Treasure Valley Classical Academy who has been rocking it with their education standards.
Side note: I homeschool my kids (they’re too old to be able to go to KCA now) using the same classical education model as they use in the Barney Charter School Initiative and I have been impressed at the level of retention and understanding in subjects that happens naturally. I highly recommend reading the TVCA page about classical education and peruse the articles and books suggested at the bottom.
The idea about a BCSI classic educational charter school in North Idaho was first brought to us by Dr. Terrence Moore, the originally announced principal for KCA. Because the Idaho charter process took too long, Dr. Moore was no longer able to be the principal but, no worries, they will now have Dr. Ed Kaitz as their headmaster.
